WEST BEND — There has been no word from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office yet about the convicted sex offender who apparently cut off his GPS monitor the day he left prison last week.

Brandon King went missing just hours after a state prison released him Aug. 6 on extended supervision. He’d been convicted in 2006 of incest with a child and causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity. He’d been expected to remain on extended supervision until 2028.

King had been sent to stay temporarily at a transitional home, run by the state Department of Corrections in the Town of Jackson. Officials had alerted area residents of his pending prison release, saying King was to seek a permanent home and full-time job.

But officials reported King apparently cut off the GPS bracelet within hours of leaving prison.

In a news release announcing King’s pending release from prison, Washington County officials

noted King’s criminal history suggested a possibility he could reoffend.
