EAGLE — The Village Board will hold two meetings on Monday, one for the petition to partially close Railroad Street and a second to discuss fire department consolidation with neighboring communities.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation petitioned for a partial closure of the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad crossing on Railroad Street in Eagle due to safety concerns.
Under WisDOT’s proposal, Railroad Street, which
connects Highways 67 and 59, would be closed to motor vehicle traffic. A shared-use path would remain open for bike, pedestrian and horse traffic, according to the petition.
Residents can weigh in on Railroad Street’s partial closure at at 6 p.m. Monday in the Eagle Municipal Building, 820 E. Main St.
WSOR is conducting a railroad track project in the area to upgrade several crossings along the corridor from Milton to Waukesha. The railroad
company received funding through WisDOT’s Freight Railroad Preservation program to upgrade crossings identified as having line of sight issues, said Lisa Stern, WisDOT chief of railroads and harbors.
A special Joint Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the Municipal Building with North Prairie and Town of Eagle. Elected officials will discuss a proposal for a consolidated fire district between Eagle, Town of Eagle and North Prairie, according to the meeting notice.
